Editorial Board: We endorse Donald Norcross for Congress

U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross has proved himself to be a dedicated representative of the constituents of the 1st Congressional District.

Although the district represents only Maple Shade and Palmyra in Burlington County, Norcross plays a vital role in the U.S. House as a staunch supporter of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, the state’s second-largest employer.

Norcross, of Camden, is well-positioned as a member for four years of the House Armed Services Committee. Most important, he was part of the New Jersey contingent of lawmakers that secured two dozen KC-46 refueling tankers at the base starting in 2020, which will better fortify the base against a Base Realignment and Closure threat as well as provide numerous jobs.

Protecting the American people, and growing New Jersey’s economy

As a father and grandfather, I’m focused on securing a better future for the next generation of Americans. I hope to earn your support to grow South Jersey’s economy by fighting for good jobs and higher wages, affordable educational opportunities, health care and retirement security, a strong nation and safe neighborhoods.

My life has been devoted to fighting for working families, seniors, veterans and students. I know the struggles our families face because I’ve been there myself: I attended community college, raised my first child as a single dad while struggling to find affordable child care, put two children through college, and have a son who’s a veteran and a Dreamer in my family.

Camden County Introduces County-Wide Service to Combat Opioid Crisis

Camden County Freeholders and officials came together to introduce a new program into their court system to help combat the opioid crisis. The program, which is being modeled after a similar initiative in Gloucester Township, is being called Project Save.

“I don’t know a person in this room that would blame someone for having cancer, for having diabetes, for having heart disease, but somehow the narrative in this county still is that ‘it’s their fault.’ This is a disease of addiction,” said Congressman Donald Norcross.

Commentary: If Amazon can raise the minimum wage, why can’t Congress?

As the country awaits an announcement about where Amazon’s next headquarters will be located, there is equally big news coming from the online giant — they’re rightfully raising their minimum wage to $15 an hour.

This is a big win for America’s workers, and I know because I once worked for minimum wage. I was a young single dad raising my son and having to balance work, family life and a checkbook. After completing an apprenticeship, I became an electrician and spent my adult life fighting for working families through the labor movement.
