Rep. Donald Norcross on Thursday called on Gov. Phil Murphy to issue a major disaster declaration for parts of Southern New Jersey after days of rain left roads inundated and trains suspended.
“As thousands of South Jerseyans continue dealing with severe rain and flooding, we must work to provide as much assistance as possible,” Norcross said. “My office has spoken to mayors and administrators throughout the First District who know we need Gov. Murphy to issue this declaration swiftly so we can move one step closer to unlocking federal resources. Let’s work together to help our first responders, homeowners, commuters and families recover.”
Over the past week, numerous flood warnings have been issued in Camden and Burlington Counties.
On Thursday, the rain knocked out PATCO trains travelling between Lindenwold and Broad Street in Philadelphia.
Norcross asked Murphy issue a disaster declaration to make additional sources of funding available to the affected areas.
