Congressman Donald Norcross used the State of the Union to bring attention to those impacted in New Jersey by the partial federal government shutdown.
Norcross invited Robert Martinez, Jr., the international president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union, to be his guest at the State of the Union Address to highlight the need to provide lost wages to federal contractors.
In a statement, Norcross said federal workers and their families endured incredible hardship during the shutdown and President Trump missed his opportunity to address a way to prevent another shutdown and “right his wrongs from this past one.”
Norcross’ office says approximately 5,000 out of the nearly 35,000 federal contractors represented by the machinists union lost wages or paid leave because of the shutdown.
